IT Governance: COBIT®
Today, companies have such a large dependency on IT and IT Services that Board of Directors and Executive Management both realise that the governance of IT (or IT Governance) is a top priority in organisations.
Frameworks like COBIT® have long been the de facto reference for defining good practices in IT organisations ensuring proper governance. COBIT however not only focuses on the governance aspects of IT but also the management practices that ensures good governance and as such defines both IT Governance and IT Management processes and practices.
The long awaited COBIT® 5 will be released in May 2012. Although much of the principles describe versions will remain intact, there are some fundamental changes to the new release. COBIT 5 is built around 5 core principles; stakeholder needs, separating governance from the discipline of management, a single integrated framework, covering the enterprise with a holistic approach. Practical guidance on process activities and simple metrics now forms part of the description of processes organised in 5 domains as oppose to the 4 previously defined and now also includes the content of the Val IT and Risk IT framework making it a single comprehensive framework.
IT Governance Courses
There are now a de jure standard for IT Governance namely ISO/IEC38500 that can be used to great effect with COBIT and other best-practices like ITIL to help organisations to ensure the proper governance of IT in their organisations.
We offer classroom based training courses in both COBIT and ISO/IEC38500.
